The test, applied

Before any law, rule or regulation, the first question: Will this hurt the people? This page asks it of every action on the record. For each one: what it said it would do, what it actually did, who it reaches, who paid for it, and what the evidence does not show.

The same test for everyone. Every action names the administration in office when it happened and gets the same five questions. The window opens in 2014; the record was last verified —. The current administration has the most entries because it is the one being recorded now — that is a fact about the compiling, not a finding about the governing. This page does not grade and does not keep a score. It lines the promise up against the record and leaves the judgment where it belongs: with you.

What this page cannot do yet

    • Who paid for it, action by action. The donor and contract records we hold are on Follow the Money (donors from $50,000 up, by candidate) and in the no-bid contract comparison on the Truth Portal. They are not yet tied to individual actions here. Until they are, every action on this page says so rather than guessing.
    • A score. Scoring would mean deciding, for you, how much a stated purpose is worth against an effect on people. We show both and the limits of the evidence instead.
    • Every action. The record is a reviewed selection, not an exhaustive list, and it runs a little behind the day. The daily brief shows what the government published on any given day, unreviewed, while the review catches up.
